Deck Maintenance – All year weather protection

A high quality cleaner and regular refinishing will protect your investment from the elements, and FenceCoaters can help you achieve this result.

Whether your deck is old or brand new, it needs protection from water and weather. Trouble can start the day you finish building a deck. What many homeowners don’t know is that the treatment given to the vast majority of the pressure treated wood used to build decks is to help prevent against rot, wood boring insects and decay organisms, and pressure treating wood offers little or no protection from the weathering process.

Your wooden deck or fence is a big investment. Wood in poor condition reduces the value of a home, and properly cared for wood adds to the value and appearance of a home. Properly cleaning it will extend its useful life and make it a source of pride for both you and your family. Whether the wood is pressure-treated softwood decking boards, or a Hardwood product, sticking to a scheduled maintenance program will insure your deck stays in top shape.

Fact:

All Exterior Wood Needs Protection From Outdoor Weather!

Why:

Because the damaging effects of outdoor weather on exposed, unprotected wood begins IMMEDIATELY and lasts forever.

PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT FROM WEATHER DAMAGE

All wood decks and exterior wood structures need some form of protection from the sun’s damaging UV rays and from the driving rains. And while power cleaning will remove the unsightly damaged surface from your deck, further protection will help preserve its appearance and value. After each winter your deck may need a cleaning product to freshen its appearance and a re-application of water repellent/deck oil, and FenceCoaters has the right solution for your deck. We utilise only quality products to clean, colour, protect and preserve garden decking.

We can maintain and enhance your deck area using…

Decking Cleaners

Our UK climate makes decks prone to green algae growth particularly during a mild wet winter. Using a deck cleaner is a fast, effective way to remove green algal growth, dirt and grease. It also sterilises the surface of the deck preventing re-growth.

  • - Powerful cleansing action
  • - Cleans and revives existing decks
  • - Ideal for preparing decks prior to sealing or staining

Some older decks may have had coats of a solid stain or even a paint coating. There are two basic types of deck finish: penetrating finishes (stain or oil) that are absorbed into the wood, and film finishes that form a coating on the wood’s surface. On this latter type, peeling, flaking and uneven wear over higher traffic areas make a deck look unsightly. Prior to cleaning and re-staining, this film will need to be removed, and there are several methods and products to achieve this depending upon the individual deck.

Decking Oil

Decking oil is the traditional way to enhance and protect Hardwood garden decks. It penetrates deep into the wood to replace natural oils and resins lost through weathering whilst its lightly tinted formula revitalises the colour of the wood.

  • - Ideal for hardwood decking
  • - Increases water repellency

Decking Stains

You can choose to stain your deck with one of a number of water-repellent exterior stains that are on the market, but do bear in mind that, once this process starts, you will certainly have to re-apply regularly to keep up the appearance.

Some manufacturers claim a five – year life for their solid – color stains provided that the surface is clean and sound and that the user follows all application instructions. These claims, and in some cases guarantees, generally reflect the maximum life of the stain under ideal conditions. Realistically, you should count on recoating every two to three years. If you wait too long, you may have to strip the deck.

Stains are available in a choice of carefully selected natural woodshades, and provide an ideal all-year-round weather protection, and a coat in the autumn really sets your deck up for winter.

Decking Sealers

Decking Seal is a quick and easy way to protect your deck against moisture penetration, which can cause the timber to split and crack. Its wax-enriched formula waterproofs the wood whilst an algaecide protects against mould and algal growth. Decking sealers have a clear formulation that will allow your deck to grey naturally.

  • - Quick drying formula
  • - Suitable for all types of decking
